How The Benefit Shop for Peace of Mind Dog Rescue Works

  • Donate Goods

    Donors drop off gently-used, new, or vintage items in great condition, such as home decor, books, toys, designer purses, jewelry, and more. Similar items should be grouped together, and soft items like linens should be placed in bag

  • Shop

    Customers shop for great finds – just the thing they need to spice up an outfit or a room – and get a bargain!  Shopping is just as important as donating as this is what gives us the funds to support our mission and programs.

  • Help Senior Dogs and Senior People

    Our mission is to serve as a resource and advocate for senior dogs and senior citizens on California's Central Coast. All net proceeds from the Benefit Shop directly support our mission and programs.

When Donating, ask yourself:

  • Column

    1. Would I buy this in its current condition?
    2. Does this item still have plenty of life left in it for someone else?
    3. Is it free from stains and tears and is it safe?
    4. Does this item smell clean (free from pet urine, moth balls or smoke odors)?
    5. Is the item fully functional, not broken and includes all pieces it came with?
    6. Did I check it against POMDR's list of items they don’t accept (below)?

    If you answered “Yes” to all the questions above, we’d love to have your donation! 

Donate Do's and Don'ts

  • Items We Accept

    • Accessories such as jewelry, purses and scarves

    • Home decor such as artwork and frames

    • Lamps and lighting

    • Diningware such as dish sets and glassware

    • Patio decor

    • Seasonal and holiday decor items (in season)
    • 
Vintage and collectibles for the home

    • Table Linens 
    • Dressers, book cases, coffee and end tables, chairs and kitchen/dining room tables. (If your item is LARGE, please email a photo to shop@pomdr.org and our shop manager will get back to you to ensure we have space for your item.)
    • Books (limited to space)
    • Gardening items
    • Toys and games
    • Women's Clothing (Faded, Ripped, Stained clothing we cannot accept)
    • Women's Shoes (new or lightly worn)

  • Items We Can’t Accept 

    • Mattresses
    • Baby equipment such as car seats and highchairs due to changing safety regulations and recall
    • Upholstered furniture of any type
    • Hangers (We do not need hangers)
    • Medical and mobility equipment such as a walkers and portable toilet seats
    • TVs
    • Toxic materials and already opened paint cans.
    • Faded, Ripped, Stained clothing or furniture of any type
    • Items that are not functional or are missing important parts.
    • Anything moldy or mildewed
